The just concluded Kannawidan Ylcos Festival marks its 5th year. It was organized by the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur in coordination w/ various agencies and units. The week-long festival usually runs from January 29 or 30 to February 4 or 5 every year since its launching in 2008.
The festival derives its name from the Ilocano term Kannawidan, meaning traditional. It aims to revive and promote the Ilocano arts and crafts. Talent competitions, search for local beauties, local play(zarzuela), cultural presentations are among the various activities during the festival. A major feature of this one-week festival is an Agro-Industrial Fair. Indigenous products from the 34 municipalities of the province is exhibited for sale at the assigned booths of the local govrnment units and individual entrepreneur.
The Kannawidan Ylocos Festival is packaged to provide entertainment, to awaken our appreciation of our Ilocano traditional arts and crafts, and establish a market networking relationship between our local entrepreneur and invited entrepreneur-exhibitors from other provinces. This activity is just one of the ways by which the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur manifests its support to our Ilocano legacy.
